
MARCELLO TONOLO
Born in Mirano(VE) in 06/01/1955, he
has been collaborating with some of
the best italian jazz musicians: Giovanni
Tommaso, Gianni Cazzola, Massimo Urbani,
Larry Nocella, Marco Tmburini, Piero Odorici,
Maurizio Caldura, Enrico Rava and with many
american musicians such as Chet Baker, Kenny
Clarke, Al Cohn, Lee Konitz, Pepper Adams,
Steve Grossman, Sal Nistico, Elliot Zigmund.
He has partecipated at the most important italian
festivals and he has played in Europe and in the
States as well. He recorded with Bob Porcelli,
Steve Lacy, Curtis Fuller, Paul Jeffrey, Heddie
Henderson, Joe Lovano, Slide Hampton, Rachel Gould,
Keith Copeland, Sam Most and four albums under
his name: "D.O.C." in 1986 and "On The Wings"(1999)
in trio and "Days" and "Seed Journey" with the group
"Music On Poetry" in which he is the leader. He is a
member of the "Gap Band", he plays in the Marco
Tamburini's Quintet and in the Massive Groove and he
is the director of the Thelonious Monk Big Band in
which he arranges the music too. In 1997 he won the
Tenth international competition of arrangement for
jazz orchestra in Barga.
