
KELVIN SHOLAR
Born in Detroit in 1973, pianist, composer, author,
despite his young age, he can be considered leader
and model in the international jazz scene, collaborating
and playing beside those who were his teachers such as
Clark Terry, Wallace Roney, David Murray, Lenny White,
becoming a prominent member of the modern jazz scene.
He attended the BA Studies, the Course Work in Jazz Studies
And Liberal Arts at Wayne State University, the Westmare
University, the William Paterson University. Kelvin's tunes
has been played, recorded and performed all over the world
by artists such as Mark Turner and Larry White. His bands
"Sholar System" and "ESO. TER. ICA" has obtained particular
attention and positive reviews world wide. In particular
ESO. TER. ICA has recorded a new album entitled "There Are
No Words" where the lyrical, passionate expressions blend
with the vanguard and the esoteric, intimate creations,
obtaining a very peculiar style. Kelvin also wrote a book
of musical theory and practice entitled "Sholar System: Tools
for a new Millennium" and he is working on another book, giving
clinics in the most important european music schools. Kelvin,
Besides as pianist, has experiences as orchestra director,
music backgrounds composer, arranger and teacher. He has
partecipated in several international festivals, winning many
prizes as well. We mention Michigan Beach Fesival Competition,
1990 (winner), Montreaux/Detroit Jazz Festival 1991 ( best soloist)
Aquinas Jazz Festival 1992; Wemu/Heritage Jazz Festival, 1993 ( best
soloist and best band); and other awards as best young musician at The
Clark Terry Jazz Camp, 1994. Among his neverending collaborations
we mention those with Sonny Rollins, Wayne Shorter, Wallace Roney,
Billy Higgins, Bobby Watson, David Murray, Clark Terry, Lenny White,
Greg Osby, Teodross Avery, James Carter, Charles Fambrough, Mark Turner,
Craig Bailey, Jon Faddis, Cindy Blackmon, Larry Smith.
