
FRANCESCO CARTA
Graduated in piano at the "Cesare Pollini"
Conservatory in Padua. He got then the Diploma
in jazz music supervisored by M° Franco D'Andrea,
at the "F. A. Bonporti" State Conservatory in Trento,
with the thesis on "The polyrhythmics in jazz music".
In 1990 he became member as pianist, composer and arranger
of the vanguard music ensemble "Devil Roll", with whom
he has performed and recorded so far three Cd for the
label Hurdy Gurdy Records" of Venice. He improves his
jazz studies with Stefano Battaglia, Franco D'Andrea, John
Taylor, obtaining, with top marks, a professional certificate
of "Contemporary Music Performer", promoted by the
European Community, inside the Siena Jazz Istitution. In 1998
he was finalist of the "Massimo Urbani Music Award" in
Urbisaglia (Macerata) for emerging jazz musicians.
In the same year he came 3° to the award "Jazz Cafè Festival"
in Rovoleto Di Cadeo (PC). In 2000 he has played with the big
band of the festival "Itinerary Jazz" of Trento directed by the
american composer Maria Schneider. In 2001 he attended a course
of "Sound Technique" at the "A. Buzzolla" Conservatory in Adria
given by the eng. Roberto Furlan. In the same year he became member
as pianist of the vocal quartet "Blue Bop". He is in charge of
the musical transcriptions in a book sponsored by the Ministy of
Education of Slovenia, that avalyses the soundtracks composed by
the american Bernard Hermann. He is teaching classical and jazz piano at
the Veneto Musical Academy of Vicenza. He is performing in theatres
and jazz clubs with various formations: piano solo, duet with sax,
trio with doublebass and drums, quartet and big band. Nowadays he is
working on the composition of the new CD of the band "Devil Doll" and
on an opera for soprano and chamber orchestra based on Emily
Dickinson's poetry. Recently he has become member as pianist of
the Toni Moretti Quintet, with whom he collaborates even in smaller
formations as trio and quartet
